The floating principle
Many newer motorcycles have multi-part, floating brake disks. These consist an internal carrier and a brake ring, which is either screwed tight, riveted or connected with one another with mobile floaters. This design has deciding advantages compared to the stiff brake disks:
- Carrier and brake ring can be made out of different materials. The internal part, for instance made out of light aluminum and the outer ring as PEAK-Outerring with optimum friction properties and minor.
- Better physical characteristics.
- The brake ring can be exchanged individually. If the outer disk has worn out, it can be replaced effortlessly by a new one.
